Auto-discharging containers and assigning tentative positions

Auto-discharging requires that your site has licensed and set up the yard allocations of the Yard Planning module and the Predefined Work Pattern (PWP) for the vessel as part of the Quay Commander module.

For more information, see the following manuals:

To auto-discharge containers and assign tentative positions:

  1. Open the vessel.

  1. In the vessel profile view, select a bay.

  2. From the Special drop-down list, select Show Work Pattern.

  3. In the Work Pattern window, verify that the work patterns are set properly.

  4. With the bays selected, from the Special drop-down list, select Auto-discharge selected bays.

The import containers are discharged to a logical block in the proper discharge sequence.

If the selected bays have transshipment containers, XPS does not consider those containers for auto-discharge if they are loaded on the vessel from the current port. XPS also does not consider transshipment containers for auto-discharge if the inbound carrier is the open vessel.

  1. To display a list of import containers from the vessel, do the following:

  1. From the Container menu, select Find.

  1. In the Container Find Filter Edit dialog box, in the Category field, type I (Import).

  2. In the Current Location field, type OV (Open Vessel).

  3. Click List.

If the list includes the Planned Position attribute, the future location is a logical block that is commonly named E.C..

  1. Arrange the list as follows:

  1. Add the POW, Queue, and Sequence attributes to the list and arrange them as the left-most columns, in this order.

  1. Click in the right corner of the list to sort the list by these attributes.

Verify that the containers are sorted by ascending order for the POW, Queue, and Sequence attributes. For example, make sure that the sequence numbers start at one and go up.

  1. Select some or all containers from the list.

Some sites assign positions by POW, some by half shift or complete shift, while still others do the entire vessel at once.

  1. From the Planning menu, select Assign Position.

The selected containers are assigned Tentative status. If the list includes the Planned Position attribute, the assigned positions show.

Tentative status assigns a planned position that helps you or your yard planner see where to position the equipment in the yard. Tentative positions have the flexibility of being re-assigned to any position that is best suited (according to the yard allocations) at the actual time of discharge.

  1. Continue selecting and assigning positions as required.
